Mountaintop Sessions began as we were coming out of the COVID lockdown, when working outdoors made it possible to continue developing Imprint while maintaining distance. Each session unfolded under completely different weather conditions, and the landscape quickly became an active collaborator. What began as a practical solution soon developed into its own project.

Mountaintop Sessions is an ongoing series of collaborative photographs made with dancers in remote natural spaces. Each image emerges from a brief meeting of people, landscape, and light.

Trust is central to these collaborations. The project grew from relationships built over many years within the dance community. A dancer agrees to enter an unfamiliar environment far from the structures of stage and studio, and together we create something that exists only for a short time. The performance is not directed toward an audience in that moment, but toward the experience itself.

These sessions unfold within narrow windows. Changing weather, fading daylight, and the physical terrain all shape what is possible. Rather than attempting to control these conditions completely, the work responds to them. Movement, atmosphere, and environment meet in a shared experience shaped by time and place.

The resulting images hold that moment of collaboration. A dancer stands fully present within the landscape, and each photograph reflects the quiet understanding that makes the work possible.
